In the heart of Kampala, Uganda, a dream was nurtured by my late mother, Marren, whose compassionate spirit sought to uplift the lives of single mothers and their children in the city's informal settlements. When cancer unexpectedly entered our lives in 2012, she saw it as the perfect opportunity to turn her dream into a beautiful reality.

Together with a resilient community of single mothers, Marren began the journey of upcycling local paper and magazines, transforming them into vibrant, colorful beads for exquisite jewelry. I joined her in this endeavor, fully aware that the healthcare she needed was not covered by insurance. This added a personal layer to our mission and deepened our resolve to create something meaningful.

As we worked side by side, Beads4Mama emerged as the perfect name, reflecting our heartfelt commitment to each other and the community. While Marren fought her illness, we not only provided financial support to the mothers but also ensured her well-being. Through the creation of beautiful necklaces, she passed on her artistry to me, teaching me the skills that would become the heart of our venture.

Together, we raised significant funds for her health, offering a lifeline to others in need within our community. Even after her passing, the flame of Beads4Mama continued to burn brightly. Today, I carry forward her legacy, honoring her memory and the impact we created together.
